You are right, Sam. The Universal tire website still lists them. Neither the Dutch nor the US Vredestein site lists them. This may indicate that they are also out of production. If so, best buy six if you like them. Remember this is the size for the S2 coupe, not the S1 coupe.

Huib-

They might be gone from production your right!
I have a Series 1 so why won't it work on my car? Big Series 2 difference?
I wiil buy six this time if they are available.
I had a set on a Series one coupe I had earlier and they seemed fine.
No problems.

They will work on a series 1. However, the circumference of the 165/80R14 is 1895 mm versus 1800 mm for the 145/80R14 so your speedo will be 5,7% off. The 165/70R14 would then be a better choice. The circumference is the same 1800 mm as for the 145/80R14. And there are 60 types from at least a dozen suppliers (Michelin among them) of the 165/70R14.

Click here to see the spreadsheet with speeds and tire dimensions etc.

I would make the effort of importing the Bridgestones in the correct size. Even better would be to see if we can combine orders and try get Michelin to make a batch of the original X tires. No ZX nor XZX nor MX nor ?X?, just the plain old fashioned X as made from 1946 through late sixties.

Huib -

If we start a grassroots Fulvisti campaign to petition Michelin to make our tire,
I will support you with all I can!! How many signature do we need??
I'm sure many Lancisti out there would agree and also support this cause!!!!
Where do I sign up???

To add a small comment, I was very very impressed when I changed from 165x14 Michelin X's (standard specification) on my series 1.5 (series 2 every thing except front suspension and drive shafts) to 165x14 Michelin XAS's It was the most cost effective motoring upgrade I have ver enjoyed with very precise handling and sweet steering feel, and cornering on rails. This was on a car with only 20,000 miles from new! I guess the old tyres were just too rock hard.

Good to hear that, Tim. Good input. The old Michelins (the X up to 180 km/h and the asymetrical XAS up to 210 km/h) are much different in construction from more modern radial tires. I forgot all the details but the old ones are all steel. Specially at the front they look like one has a flat tire. In my opinion they are a perfect match for the suspension of the Fulvia.

Can you tell a bit more about your experience with and your feelings about these tires?

If we are going to start a project to have the 145R14X remade we have to convince as many people as possible that these original X models are really worth it.

Tim-

Are you in the UK or Europe or the US?
Is the 165/14 XAS you desribe available in the states?
Part of the problem here is this a global discussion.
What I can find here in the staes might not be avail across the pond and vice versa.
Shipping is outrageous at the moment because of the exchenge rates, not a good option.

Although I am not in the market for 145-14 Michelin X Tyres (I would like 155-14 & 155-15 for my Appias) here are the contact details for Michelin Collector Tyres:

MICHELIN Pneus Collection
46, rue du Ressort - 63100 Clermont-Ferrand
Tél. +33 (0)4 73 41 75 00 - Fax +33 (0)4 73 41 75 05
Internet : www.michelin-passion.com - E.mail : pneuretro@fr.michelin.com

I think you will need to contact them to get the tyres remade. I would suggest that it may be worth contacting the Lancia Motor Club in the UK and the Fulvia specialists like Omicron so that you can build a substantial order quantity (anything less than 100 tyres is unlikely to be successful). Hope this helps.
