Didn't they finally use this rear-transaxle in the New Corvette?

This was amazing... wow, 30 years after Alfa.. and 80 years
after Lancia. Bravi!!

Dear Randy,
While I share with you the sentiment that the best Lancias were the older ones, I will take issue with you about the Thema. Flawed as it was in both concept and design, the car turns out to be more Lancia-like than you give it credit for, especially in its 8.32 incarnation. Please don't tell me that because it shared a chasis with the other three cars (Saab 9000, Fiat Croma, Alfa 164) that is was simply the same as them, ten seconds behind the wheel shows anybody that it was most definately not! Even the Alfa struggles to be as good, the Saab is safe and okay, while the Croma is the poor cousin, but the Thema is as striking to own (I've owned two) as it is to drive. Pity about the Boy Scout electrics though. I also owned a s3 Fulvia 13 with one of those narrow angle V4 engines you speak of, so I do have some thing to compare. Sadly I also share your suspicion that Lancia is about to go the way of Wolsey, Riley, and all the other old marques that were swallowed by inpersonal corporations such as FIAT.
Kind regards

I hope that someone at Fiat headquarters reads these comments here;

we should all keep bombarding Lancia websites with commentts and questions of why they are not producing cars that we Lancisti want to buy; I don;t care fo the Alfa type of car but want a sportier Lybra;

I know people in America who love Lancias but Fiat was never really committed to the American market.

I recall about 30 years ago reading an interview of Giovanni Angnelli, when Fiat were really successful in America with the Fiat 128, that they were in principle afraid of selling more than 100,000 cars a year in the US market becuase then they would be become ' too dependent on it' ...

The Japanese had it all to themselves...when the Uno cam out. a car which could have done well in the US, they withdrew from the market...no guts to invest and give what the customer wants.

I recently read an interview with the new chief of Fiat in Gemany and he was basically stating the same rubbish as Cantarella; he was stating that Lancia had no sporting heritage except for the rallying in the 80s...he shoudl look at some of Lancia's own websites where the glories of the Aurelia, D50, Fulvias etc is well documented. Such peopl should not be allowed into such jobs;

I would support Toyota buying Lancia...they are becoming global and know how to manage a brand; look at how Lexus has been built up...people rave about the previous model GS300 model...I rode in one last week - the leather looks like plsatic and the plastics on the dashboard are worse than on a Punto, yet people are convinced that they are buying ' quality'...and Toyota has exceptional quality control that Fiat could learn a lot from...

On the other hand my Lybra's interior is far classier..even better than a new Jaguar X-tyoe, but who knows it? Lanci#s advertisisng of the Lybra has been pathetic; at the Geneva auto show this year they only had one Lybra, a Station Wagon on the stand, and even that was in an ugly colour and blacked out read windows...it looked like a hearse. No wonder sales are dropping like crazy...

Enough for now...I've written to them twice in the past few monts.

Now it's all your turn too!

Let's save Lancia!

Hi,

After the comments made by Philip on the beautiful interior of the Lybra, I thought I'd check it out on http://www.lancia.nl, the official Dutch Lancia page (can't check it out in real life as I am in Australia).

Well what do you know, the famous Lancia sales techniques kicks into action again, the entire webpage (and a very amateuristic looking page it is too) does not contain one single image of the Lybra's interior...

Then in the tech spec section, there is talk of drum brakes, I don't think any Lybra sold in the Netherlands has drums... Then they state the Power of the 2.4JTD engine too low, (134BHP instead of 150), this ofcourse in turn makes them understate all the performance and fuel consumption figures.

Then you won't be able to find more then three small photographs of the Lybra on the entire website. Then the 'home' bit of the Lybra where there is a short description of the car contains numerous grammatical errors...

What is wrong with these people? Do they not want to sell cars?

Ahhh well what am I worrying about, being in Australia I wouldn’t even be able to buy a new Lancia if I wanted to.

Regards,
-Pieter.

Don't know whether this is good news or not, but Paolo Cantarella has taken out 'Extended Gardening Leave':

_____

TURIN, Italy -- Capping weeks of speculation that his job was in jeopardy, Fiat Group CEO Paolo Cantarella resigned Monday amid mounting problems for the Italian industrial group and its core unit, Fiat Auto.

Re: Future Lancias??

I'm still wondering what is going on with Lancia.

in 2002:
Lancia Phedra
Lancia Thesis

in 2003:
Lancia "New Ypsilon"

after this? I have heard nothing.. not even so much definite information
of a replacement for the Lybra or any new models (?!?).

Is this the end then? Lancia slowly disappearing?

Ryan,

2005 - Lybra replacement on the GM (excuse my language) Epsilon platform.

Does using the Epsilon platform mean that the next Lybra will be rear wheel driven?

Well, the Epsilon platform is a FWD architecture. The cars that have been used this platform so far are:
2003 Opel Vectra
2003 Saab 9-3

So, I would say, no. :}

Things sound pretty sketchy on this 2005 Lancia Lybra. Using this platform would be a good basis for Lancia, but if the $$$ isn't there to develop it? They already spent a lot of money on that Thesis (though probably nothing on Phedra LOL!!)

and the guy who took over, Fresco is better? FIAT is in deep poop, and is talking about leverageing Ferrari to bail it out! The talk about GM buying out the rest of FIAT Auto (except for Ferrari and Maserati) is getting VERY serious.
