If you have a non original master cilinder, you should check if the rear brakes still work when the front circuit is without fluid and vice versa.

You can always drive by and test drive my Fulvia which is a 1967 coupé with non servo assisted brakes like your Zagato.

Thanks Huib, that is very generous offer. As my master cylinder came from a reputable Dutch Lancia supplier I'm sure it will be compatible but you are right, I should check. I have now adjusted the clearance on the pedal according to you instructions and at least the travel is much reduced. After some driving I am more confident with the brakes. Maybe I should pass by with my car some time
