Paul, I have some crank cases and crank shafts for 1600s left. Also complete engine(s) and a lhd 1600 'project' car if you want. But I am out of cilinder blocks. For a reason of course. That is what is damaged the most. I have seen quite some 82.6 bores that were then gone. Rods would be next to the list of unrepairable I would say.
If the rest of the car is complete and sound, solving the engine problem sounds viable (given you do not pay too much for the car).
Do it!! I have had 6 1600s and enjoyed all of them (and still do.....).
