well maybe the Lucas unit is a better bet. It used a 775 belt with a larger pulley!

Problem solved. I found a local alternator specialist who replaced and uprated the internals, within the original housing--greatly increased output, but indistinguishable from original.

did you use the Bosch or Ducellier and did you need to retain the regulator?

What is the output now?? Can you gain how they do it so I could advise a similar shop near me?

It's a Bosch unit, and it's now at 100A, so the regulator has also been replaced with a unit capable of handling that output. I should mention, of course, that we've just completely rebuilt the entire wiring harness (and virtually every electrical item) from the steering wheel forward, so the system shouldn't have any trouble handling the additional output.

I don't know how the alternator shop made the upgrade; my mechanic handled the deal. But the mechanic didn't seem to regard it as anything extraordinary, which leads me to believe that any capable automotive electrical shop has already done something similar. So I'll try to find ot how they achieved this, but in the meantime, I'd simply speak to your local shop about it.
