Scam artists don't think that most people are *completely* stupid--just stupid enough to be convinced by a detailed, plausible story enough. In fact, just convinced enough to not bother to do some basic research when it comes to getting a bargain on a car. Most people won't do their homework, and these scam artists know it.

And these scam artist aren't entirely wrong, judging by how many people have been bidding on this car (and others like it) every time it shows up. In this case, he's *borrowed* parts of Jaan's story about the car, which means it sounds like it's coming from a seller who knows these cars and is telling you everything uo front.

The photos are fine; the vegetation isn't actually a giveaway; Berkeley, California (where Jaan is located) isn't any more tropical than suburban New York, where this car claims to be. The photos could have been taken either place--the sun does occasionally come out in New York.

As William points out, it's the chassis number and engine number that give it away. The engine number is for a 1600, while the chassis number is for a Rallye 1.3 (Series 1) RHD car; this is obviously an S2 LHD. At least this is obvious to any of us on this forum, or anyone with a high degree of knowledge of these cars, or anyone who takes the time to do some most basic research.

But you wouldn't have to be stupid--just less knowledgeable and a bit naive and willing to but a story instead of doing your homework--in order to think that this might be OK. This scammer isn't stupid; he's just picked a car that too many of us can recognize.

detailed, plausible-sounding story. In fact, just convinced enough to not bother to do some basic research when it comes to getting a bargain on a car. Most people won't do their homework, and these scam artists know it.

And these scam artist aren't entirely wrong, judging by how many people have been bidding on this car (and others like it) every time it shows up. In this case, he's *borrowed* parts of Jaan's story about the car, which means it sounds like it's coming from a seller who knows these cars and is being straight with you up front.

The photos are fine; the vegetation in the photos isn't actually tropical, and doesn't look any more like Berkeley, California (where Jaan is located, and which isn't tropical) than suburban New York, where this car claims to be. The photos could have been taken either place.

The engine number is for a 1600, while the chassis number is for a Rallye 1.3 (Series 1) RHD car; this is obviously an S2 LHD. At least this is obvious to any of us on this forum, or anyone with a reasonable degree of knowledge of these cars, or anyone who takes the time to do some basic research.

I think the ebay offer was written by "Rowan & Martin" or "Abbot & Costello"
as mentioned, the #'s don't match; still I hoped it was a "bastardized" car that could by bought cheeep
(which I hope no 1 ahs "tried to do" !)
brunello is described as being "burgundy". I wonder what color wine this guy drinks ?
he wrote (after being killed) "A Zagaot just fell into my lap" . I say "OUCH !"

Where did this happen ? In the office ? At hoem ? A Zagato in NYC ? Come on !!!

He sure carried out a lot of "just a guy who loves his car" mods, upgrades, repair etc... for a guy who wants to "give his car away, for only 2900 bucks" ; but he never mentioned the 1.6 engine.
He sounds too much like a macho-pig to own a Fulvia !
No mention of the foreign plates blue F' shown in the photos. Why not ? Why isn't it for sale too ? or fpr sale in lieu of the "brown-bomber".
Anyway:
Instead of worrying about a "bastard" F' in NYC, I should "follow up" on a Lancia Club XYZABC Fulvia (Club President if I remember correctly) offered to me last month - "no-hurry, tell me when you are in town & we can meet" type-offer.
A well know & 'certified as being excellent' , by various Lancia Club members.
Photos of this dark-blue car are "wow"). Located in EFGH at Euro 2900, which I'd buy if I ever had time to stop when driving past EFGH !
"time to stop" ? what is that ?
anyway, I usually drive past late nites/early mornings & no 1 wants to show his Fulvia at that time of day. Hmmmm...........if it doesn't blizzard later this month... maybe... no ! Forget it. !
The last thing I need is another .......... you know the rest of this story !!!

I'll go, look at it (if it is still there), cause a lot of trouble & who knows what might happen !!!
