I have - send my an email and I will forward pdf's for the tool which i made up coutesy of Tony K. I have to say 2 of my 3 fulvias were spot on but the 1.6HF was way out. Ran far better after adjustment but didnt cure the flat spot. Careful cam timing did though (unsuspecting it had such a contribution to make!).

Glad to hear that the backfire has gone away, and that the engine's back to health. Be careful making the pop pop noise when ferrying a civilian; sometimes they don't understand...

Instrument lights, has to be something easy like a fuse, yes?

Good to hear the problem has been sorted in the mean time.
4.4 Ohm is rather high even for a coil that is used without ballast resistor. Try to get a Bosch or Beru blue one. These are appr.3.3 to 3.5 Ohm.

The total resistance has to be around 3.3 to 3.5 Ohm. This is to limit the current through coil and points at low rpm and in particular when the engine is not running with contact on and points closed. At higher rpm's the current is limited by the inductance of the coil.

The 3.5 Ohm dissipates power and thus gets hot. There are two ways to go for the 3.5 ohm.

1. use wire with the right specific restance per meter for the primary of the coil. Less component count but the coil gets hotter.

2. use thicker wire for the coil and insert an external ballast resistance to get to the total of about 3.5 Ohm. Typically the coil has about 1.5 Ohm and the ballast resistor is 1.8 Ohm. Most of the power is now dissipated outside the coil. The coil stays cooler and lasts longer.

You may want to change the capacitor too. The capacitor is often neglected but is does change value when used.

i will check the ground but i was wondering about the rheostat. has been a little dodgy in the past.

i will look for a coil with that rating or look for a coil with the 1.5 ohm and re-install the ballast resistor. regarding the capacitor, does anyone know of a good part number for this? i would like to get one from my local store and not have to order special if possible. if i go in to the parts store i always get the same response (you got a what? i never heard of that)

Beru ZK 201
0 030 100 201

I used to have Facet ones too but can't find one.

the Beru capacitor has 0.25 microF value?
