Huib,
I fully agree with your efforts to keep your fulvia's in top condition and use them the way they were built for. I did about 280.000km over the past 11 years, bringing the total today to 425.000.
But ever since I have the luxury to divide the daily driving between the fulvia and a gamma berlina, I have gradually 'upgraded' the 1300 S2 to make it faster, especially for slalom trackdays and general fun. I was able to obtain the technical parts of an 1600S2, and have swapped most of it. I rebuilt the engine after a complete strip, including new pistons. It took me a very long time to get the carbs (solex42) right, the jetting being completely off. This included making sight glasses on the outside of the carbs to see what happened inside, and experimenting with home-made mixing tubes. It also included work on the exhaust, damping, triangles, silent blocks, anti roll bars, MSD, etc. It's just that, after so much driving, things like the left hand door lock are worn, and of course rust as an enemy. I wonder how long it will keep going... But the car drives rather impressively. It's much faster than it was with the 1300, and routinely does 440/450km on a tank. And tire consumption has increased...
I like to experiment and would like to improve ignition by stabilizing the signal and trying different advance settings.
