Yes, this is the central Europe CD but when I think about central Europe I also think about France, Benelux, which is not part of this CD, also Germany is not fully covered. So maybe we had a misunderstanding here. If the coverage of this CD serves your needs, then this one is the one to go for.
Hi there,
we were talking about the central Europe CD one one hand (were I did say there are only country-specific CDs), but now we worked out that there is also a thing called "Central Europe" CD which covers a fraction of central Europe... B)
Other thing was talking about which SW-level on the Connect is required to run the Opel CD. There is no definitve answer, I can only say that mine has version 4.23 and loads Opel CDs like a charm. However, I don't see any reason why the Opel CDs should not work on previous levels, but with software you never know..... Version is display by pressing and holding the "Main" button on the Connect for 10 seconds or so.
If those Opel CDs for the NCDR-system work in your Thesis you will get a complete European package (8-CDs) at navigation.com for the price of 2 single CDs. Check out Built-in/Factory installed --> Opel/Vauxhall --> Astra --> 2000 --> NCDR
Other, good source for cheaper, legal procurement of those CDs is also ebay.
Maybe you have a friend in your area with a factory installed navigation system in his Opel to borrow the CD for a minute to check whether it works....
Just an addition: for Opel's NCDR-systems there is no "Central Europe", the CD with the same coverage it is called "Alps", which makes also more sense than "Central Europe". (tu)
" DO NOT TRY NCDR discs It will possibly render your navigation completely useless!
I fully agree that the lay out of the files resembles the NCDR type but there are major differences also.
It all starts with the CDROM.TOC file:
Example: Italy and Major Roads of Europe 2007/2008
The Opel/Vauxhall Siemens NCDR and NCDC systems work with the same database format as the Lancia Thesis system (and the G3 system used in Lancia Lybra and some Porsche types).
However, the Thesis CD's have some special files, which contain information for the Connect system, such as audio files for the voice control (in a somewhat garbled wav format) and menu structures. You can find them all when you view the contents of the CD in your computer: It is a normal DOS/Windows-formatted file system containing different folders, including the GPS database.
The Thesis-specific files do not seem to be mandatory, as the Connect system works fine without them. Perhaps they are needed after a complete system reboot, which never heppened to me.
Best,
GWB
Can you please tell me if any of these compatible discs is covering Croatia (as a part of Central Europe or similar)?
And you have mentioned NCDR and NCDC systems....but where does Opel's CD70 system fit in.....and does it have the same database?
One of the suggestions somewhere on the forums was to take DB folder from one disc and burn to a brand new CD along with Thesis specific files from Thesis disc. This way I could get almost any map made by NAVTEQ...
