Bryan,
I think that that is an excellent idea. No more trying to rebuild old cylinders - new ones always available.
Let us know how you get on. What's the bore size of the Ford cylinder?

paul, i needed to apply some thought to the mounting of it,but it sits firmly on the adaptor i made. Lack of the correct size unions stopped play,so i will let you know the result by midweek. The bore of the cylinder is 20mm,so it should be man enough. The Escort donor vehicle is an diesel,which is a fair lump in terms of weight,Bryan

Hi Paul, the Escort cylinder is working fine. i had quiet a lot of plumbing work,as well as fabricating an adaptor plate for the mounting bolts,just plucking up courage for a track day now! . On another point,is the series 2 handbook[ A5 red one] misleading in its schematic for the duplex brake system;,the aspect that shows the caliper in section,indicates the pipework leading to the wrong pot,or is it me?,Bryan

Well done Bryan, I have to assume that your original cylinder was worn out as I suspected - as I wrote earlier, I had similar (but not the same) problems.
The drawing in the handbook is correct.
