45mm carbs...
I remember reading here and being quite surprised to hear that the 2 stamp on the carb's 42 was stamped by hand.
I looked at my carb and saw indeed it was. Which got me to think...if the barrell is 45mm wouldn't it be a simple(ish) mod to make 42mmsolex into 45mm solex???
What do u think? Now that would be naughty wouldn't it

No - impossible - it's 42 not 45!

Neil,
I couldn't find this thread. Could you email me a link to it?
Thanks
Paul

Not on mine.
Come on! These are trivia, let's get back to the real stuff: carbs and cams and big valves etc!

Mine is the same as yours - two numbers (different). I assumed it was the same on all Fulvias.

Thanks Neil,
I had forgotten (terrible memory...)
It seems I was wrong: so if "M!" wants 45s, then he can have his 42s bored out. Next he must then get four 38mm chokes made from scratch... and of course modify the jets.
Perhaps 007 can help?

no that's 'M''s department
Well actually yours Paul but if you want to start being called 'M' that's up to you. I don't mind
I just thought that since the Solex45's are so elusive and rare the something could be done about the carbs since for homologation purposes you would need them. As I understand under certain historic rally rules Weber or Dellorto would be banned.

Yes, it's true that the cars were never fitted with the big webers or Dell'Ortos as production items. YOu could try arguing that as the Solex 45s are impossible to find, then what else can you do, but scrutineers - especially eligibility scrutineers are notoriously hard-hearted.
From what the others say it would seem that the 42s could be converted to 45s, but the chokes would be quite expensive unless you have a tame machinist handy.
