Lancia usually did the gearing right. It is more important than engine power. I did a rally once in Normandy in the S3 Appia berlina which has a perfect column shift. The car following us was a Beta HPE 2000IE which could not keep up with us. In turn I had to work the Appia very hard to keep up with the Artena of Don Williamson
