When you have positioned the thing and are about to put the clamp back on or a metal strip around it, you have to equalise the pressure. You do this by putting a blunt screw driver under the collar which goes around the shaft to let air out or in whatever happens to be the case. When you have done this, don't move the collar up or down the shaft or you will create a new over or under pressure.
