hi adrian/karsten,
dont worry about your english, seems to be better than mine!!! ( i'm scottish, live in belguim)
there was a few posts about stainless exhausts on the netherlands site, but from what i can tell its custom made systems, unless your lucky enough that someone has already made one for the k, and they still have the bucks/pattern for the shape. if you offset the cost against replacing systems on the car, it can be worth it if you intend on keeping the car for a long time.
on the idling problem, twice in the past few months, coming to a halt at a junction, the revs on my car drop to nothing , (when the clutch is in,) think its computer gremlins at work. not happening to much, considering the mileage i do, the car goes in for a good tune up soon, maybe that'll help.
would recommend that if the car is on lpg to, for instance, if the sender switch malfunctions, the car wont know if its running on benzine or gas, revs go screwy and you lose most of the power. a mate had the same problem. after a few garages ripped him off, a mechanic he met in the pub fixed it for nothing, the switch was around a few euros!!!
good luck with the other problems, parts for my k finally arrived, so off to the lancia doctor in a week or so.

A/C and idling issues
Re: A/C and idling issues
Hi cris, glad to hear your Kappa is taking back the roads.
Latest development on the A/C issues: today, after driving for 30 minutes and idling in the parking (waiting for my girlfriend) for like 10, I turned off the engine and was shocked to realize there was some smoke (?!) coming out of the central blowers (the two small ones right above the display, not the big one). I turned the engine back on, same issue for a few seconds, then it was gone for good (the smoke, not the engine
). I did my best to record some impressions, but all I can say about that smoke is that it smelled a bit like old clothes, you know, left in the attic or something, not like exhaust gas or plastic smoke.
For my interior peace of mind, is there any possibility that the "smoke" I saw was some kind of dust or outside influence (e.g. smoke aspirated via the A/C) and wouldn't originate anywhere in my car? I had the cabin filter changed last week, maybe it's some kind of "settling in"?
Now, for the second issue - rollbar. I installed ePER from the Hungarian Lancia Kappa site, browsed around for the parts, the rollbar itself is pretty expensive (around 300 EUR, ouch). However, Karsten mentioned before that there are some rubber mounts on the rollbar which wear out
For a better idea - and for those more mechanically-inclined, if you have ePER installed, here's the link:
http://127.0.0.1:7080/navi?MOD_COD=107& ... &DRW_NUM=4
The mounts I'm talking about (EUR 4 each) are called "brackets" in the picture (part #2). Would it be possible to change only those mounts or do I need to have the whole assembly (rollbar + brackets) replaced?

Re: A/C and idling issues
About the "smoke"...
If you don't turn off the A/C a few km/miles before you stop the engine, then the filter doesn't have time to dry completely. So next time you use the A/C it could smell like what I would call football socks from a world cup final (with extra time). I have "enjoyed" the smell more than a few times - luckily it quickly vanishes into thin air. But I have never experienced the smoke you mention.
Are you sure it ain't A/C gas? Or maybe just damp/moist from a very very wet filter?

Re: A/C and idling issues
Hi Karsten,
I checked with some more experienced guys - apparently, it wasn't smoke, but steam. They say that on their cars (not Lancias), sometimes it happens that the condensed water is sent back into the cabin as steam if the drain tube is stuck or the position of the car doesn't allow the water to flow out properly. Overall, I never encountered this issue ever since, so I guess the problem can be closed.
Anybody has a Kappa manual in English or French? I found one in Hungarian, but that's one of the several European languages I have no clue about.

Re: A/C and idling issues
i searched everywhere for a k manual, i've always used haynes in the past (we call them idiot guides where i come from
) but i think with the small production numbers it just wasnt profitable for them. lancia dropped out the uk market anyway. even had one for an american car i had, i've seen the question on the dutch site before, and no-one has any info there either.
if i use the airco i generally turn it off when i arrive at work/home, after reading karstens and your advice i'll switch it off a few kms before. never seen any smoke/damp in the cabin yet.
good luck, cris.

Re: A/C and idling issues
Maybe its just all the weather here in Denmark that makes the filter smell like %#§&
Another reason for turning off A/C a few minutes or miles before you reach your destination is to make sure that the battery recharges completely.
No matter what it's always best to turn if off before you stop the engine like Cris already did - otherwise the A/C pump starts up along with the engine next time you drive. That's gotta be bad business for the starter in the long term.

Re: A/C and idling issues
Point taken - starting the engine with the A/C on proves a little difficult sometimes and needs a slight "encouragement" from the throttle pedal to get it on.
Any advice for powerdrive fluid? The manual in Hungarian recommends Tutela Top 4, but the mechanic said he can't get it here and offered to put a similar type from Castrol. Is that good/bad?

Re: A/C and idling issues
I think our car is using what Fiat recommends all except for engine oil.
I got so tired of Selenia. Same price no matter where I searched for it and couldn't save any money when buying a 4 litre canister.
The 20VT (at least our car) uses a little engine oil probably because the turbo is burning some of it in between. Decided to go for Shell Helix because its on sale every single month at a local major warehouse. Apart from paying half price compared to Selenia, it turns out that our car uses less oil too!
To answer your question... I can't really see how something as well known as Castrol could be bad for the servo. Just stay away from the cheapest servo oil if they have several to choose from - it's allowed to spoil a Lancia a little
