Fulvia 1600 HF Fanalino Corsa
Re: Fulvia 1600 HF Fanalino Corsa
Hello,
For me,the fanalino corsa is not a myth,
i know three of them very well, one is mine (one of the very first second serie) and the two other are from clients in france and germany.
the one that you are looking for is not a fanalino corsa.
what i can say is that they were only sold for italian market, S2 body, of course no bumpers, no chromes on the front and rear glasses (hf 1st serie gasket), the rear glass is plastic, front seat from 1st serie hf ( no headrest, holes in the back parts and driver seat is not reclining) rear seat in three parts (the cross behind the seat is not at the same place like 1st serie hf) 1st serie doors and side panel, doors handles and no deflectors on the doors.Fanalone front suspension without silentblocs but axes with grease, fanalone engine exept the cylinder block ( only one alternator hole) but big oil sump, polished rokers and conrods.
this is the main difference, i prefer to keep some differences for me to avoid copies.
you can also find some post on the italian forum.
regards,
Cédric.

Thanks for the info. I have never dealt with Omicron so might contact them, but note your point about cost. John Day is the closest so will give him a call too.

Thanks for your message. It is good to know that the myth is still alive! In my position it is difficult to know what to think when there seems to be such a difference of opinion out there! I am happy that the car I am considering is a genuine HF. It seems that the Fanalino Corsa, if it exists, should not command a higher price as it is clearly difficult to categorically identify a Corsa. The seller of the HF I am looking at is completely convinced his car is a Fanalino Corsa so I am confused. I am potentially proceeding with the sale on the basis that the car is a good example of a correct numbers Series 2 1600 HF and not that it is Fanalino Corsa. In your opinion, is there any one definitive thing that identifies a Fanalino Corsa? I will certainly put your observations to the seller and see what he says.
All very mysterious stuff. I am new to this debate but it seems quite surprising that after 40 years this search for absolute proof of the existence of such a car is still ongoing.
It would be good to hear what you think.

Chris,
As I'm in the US, Neil can answer this far better than I can, though I'll note that I've always found Omicron to be very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Re: Fulvia 1600 HF Fanalino Corsa
Cédric: the car you're describing would indeed be described as a 'fanalino corsa'. What you're describing is essentially a fanalone in an S2 body, and it can't possibly be a later conversion, as it has the S1 bronze upper bushings--something no conversion would have done. So it must be genuine. I'd love to see photos of the car, if you can post some. But based on your possessing one, I have to say they exist.
I cannot believe, however, that anything like 200 were ever made. For one thing, 200 is too round a number for Lancia production practice: 202 Fulvia Sport 1.2, 432 1.2 HF, 882 1,3HFs, 1258 1,6HFs, with gearbox spec change at chassis 1610, except that 1618 & 1619 got the old gearbox by mistake. So I don't believe round numbers. More importantly, though, have you personally seen more than the 3 you mention? I see lots of cars advertised as "fanalino corsa", but none of them with the spec you describe.
I appreciate your attitude about not discussing all the details in an online forum; I feel exactly the same way about the fanalone.
Chris: what Cédric is saying--and I agree with him on this, too--is that the car you're looking at certainly is not a "fanalino corsa", despite how strongly the seller may believe this. Belief is not the same as proof.

Re: Fulvia 1600 HF Fanalino Corsa
Cedric,
Interesting as Ed says then, it seems they do exist, a Fanalone in an S2 bodyshell - we learn something new every day!
Both Ed and I own Fanalones so understand your wishing to keep some details back, but like Ed I would love to see some photos.
Thanks
Neil

We all like to keep the critical details close as we all know there are clones been created as we speak. Looks like the inflating prices are creating incentive.
Fortunately most who seek these prized versions can check on the Forum to verify. The Italian forum is great as it constantly discusses any questionable car for sale and go to great lengths discussing details.
If anybody needs translative help either myself or Ed(hope this is OK) can help.
Regards to all.

Re: Fulvia 1600 HF Fanalino Corsa
Cédric,
Please understand that when I ask to see photos, it's not that I disbelieve you. This is a case where I'm happy to be wrong if it means I learn something interesting. So I really want to see photos to better understand the history of the 1,6s and to see if the factory brochure's representation's actually accurate.

Re: Fulvia 1600 HF Fanalino Corsa
Hi Cedric
I thought I would follow up on your earlier message re the 1600 HF I am considering buying. I am now treating the car as a good example of a 1600 HF with only the possibility that it might be a Corsa. I have now had a lot of photos from the seller and he has confirmed many of the details which suggest the car does have quite a lot of Fanalone details in line with the so called " Fanalino Corsa". Having now received a lot of very good information from members of the forum I have had a go at listing the differences there maybe between a Corsa and a Lusso if indeed the Corsa does exist!. I am of course no expert on the subject so this list should be treated as no more than a provocative tool for discussion and if can help me shed some light on the the identity of the car that I considering that is off course good from my point of view.
So here goes:
Lancia Fulvia 1600 HF
"Fanalino Corsa"
Specification differences from a standard Lusso 1600 HF:
1. No front or rear bumpers.
2. Wider arches to rear wings.
3, Aluminium (Paraluman) bonnet, boot and doors.
4. No chrome detail to front and rear window gaskets (uses Series 1 gasket).
5. Series 1 bronze upper bushings?
6. Competition rear axle (5kg lighter due to aluminium ends).
7. Series 1 door cards (ribbed).
8. Low back front seats from S1 1.6 HF with no headrests, holes in top
of seats and driver seat does not recline.
9. Fanalone engine except for cylinder block (only one alternator hole).
10. Polished rocker arms and conrods.
11. Big oil sump.
12. Oil cooler.
13. Competition drive shafts (21mm v 24 mm).
14. No brake servo.
15. Series 1 doors and side panels, door handles and no deflectors on the doors?
16. Rear seat in three parts.
17. Rear glass in Perspex/plastic.
18. Fanalone front suspension without silent blocs but axes with
grease, negative camber and more direct steering box/rack?
19. Fixed vent window.
The seller of the HF that I am considering has confirmed that his car has all the above details except the rear glass in Perspex/plastic. However, it does have a servo and it has Fusina seats (seem nearly new to me) and he is not sure if it has Series 1 bronze bushings or polished rocker arms and con rods or the competition drive shaft. He also says the door cards are ribbed Series 1 but that seems debatable.
It would be good to have your thoughts on the above.
Many thanks for your help.
Best regards
Chris
