injection light after repairs
Re: injection light after repairs
Well that's some progress anyway! Is your car equipped with a tuning chip? I've heard that som tuning chips have the effect that they make the I.E.-lamp light up even though nothing is wrong. Is your engine running as it should now?
Today i found a possible cause to my problems. A thick ground cable had a rusty connection to the engine block. If you lift the front of the car, it is fitted with a screw in the middle lower part of the block slightly above the oil pan. I removed it and cleaned it up and put som copper grease on it. After reassembling I drove the car for a while and the lamp didn't light up once! The following days will tell if I finally solved my problem. Whatever happens I will be back with a full report.

i don't have tuning chip it's plenty fast enough already for front wheel drive! the oil return from the turbocharger is leaking so i can't really use it until i've changed it then I'll see what happens
Re: injection light after repairs
changed the oil return today driven it mainly in town drives ok no leaks runs at normal temp perheps a little jittery at times and maybe not quite as responsive off boost as I remember. red light strays stubbornly on...........

Hello Alan,
Sorry I cannot offer anything useful - you are ahead of the pack on this one.
Just letting you know that you are not being ignored.
I guess that the most likeley thing is a broken connection somewhere due to the remove/refit activity, but if the engine is running then it can't be the main items like throttle pot, water temp sensor (for the ECU), map sensor, phase sensor or crank position sensor. That doesn't leave much other than the Lambda probe or the plenum chamber temperature sensor. I'm afraid my knowledge is based upon the pictures on the parts CD! Is there a knock sensor? I see a sensor p/n 60592752 in the ignition section but don't know what that does.

Re: injection light after repairs
leo it is all a bit mysterious but clearly i have a bad connection somewhere....I suspect that the ecu has 'lost' one signal and is able to substitute a 'guestimate' figure for it so the car runs ok I think i will have to admit defeat and take to the nearest fiat emporium for them to stick it on their tester, checked most things but it is very difficult to see everything in a very well packed engine bay
Re: injection light after repairs
Yepp, there is a knock sensor on these engines. But I have no idea where it is mounted.
Re: injection light after repairs
it's on the back of the block (inlet side);
it's not disturbed when removing the head as far as I remember

Re: injection light after repairs
took the car for a longer drive yesterday, performance appears normal (but i didn't really push it for obvious reasons) the light stays stubbornly on. At very low speed on overrun the car doesn't quite seem to know what to do, there is a very slight hesistation to the engine. I think it's using a little too much fuel but after driving a Y10 this is of course a normal reaction! difficult to be absolutely certain and at idle the lambda switches normally suggesting a normal mixture.
Re: injection light after repairs
Just had a flash of inspiration - remembered that once when I had the speedometer disconnected in my Thema the injection lamp came on. It was because of the speed warning facility (you press a button when at a desired speed and thereafter a beep warns when you are exceeding that speed). Does your car have such a device?

Re: injection light after repairs
rather than trust a local Fiat agent I took the trek over to Betacar to get it checked by their test kit. the fault is in the connection to the throttle position sensor but it's not yet resolved fully although the red light is now out
suspicion is on a broken wire or similar bad connection
