cambelt and when to change

Unread post by jimcraib »

Hi everyone heres one for you to get your teeth into. When does a cambelt need changing on a Beta coupe. The Haynes manual and Lancias own handbook says 36.000 miles or 3 years. What if a car like my 1300 coupe is doing say less than 500 miles per year. The reason for the request is that Iwill be taking mine off the road at the end of September. The cambelt was last changed in 1997 it was a genuine Lancia one from Pebley Beach in the UK the car has covered less than 2000 miles since then. Comments please.

Jim I think it is fair to say that with modern production developments the 8 valve belts are pretty reliable however lack of use is probably just as bad as regular use so I would say that the relatively minimal expense of a belt change (or almost negligable if you DIY) is worth while every few years just to be on the safe side
