Fulvia Oil Pressure Sender - which one
Hi all
I need some info as to which is the correct oil pressure sender for my Fulvia 1600 sport.
The pressure gauge is in the HF style group of three (inbetween the speedo and the rev counter) and is made by Veglia Borletti.
I have 2 senders - one has "divide" 6 and one has "divide" 8. Which, if either, is the correct one?

I don't understand the "divide"but if the figure indicates the pressure at which the electrical resistance becomes zero, your should use the 6.
You can test them by connecting them to a compressor through a pressure regulator with manometer and measuring the resistance with an ohm meter. Pressure is pressure. The thing does not know if it is air or oil.

Thanks I can do the pressure test.
When I say "divide" it is the symbol ÷ then the number - it may mean something else in Italian?
Would the ÷ 8 be for Jaeger instruments?
What is 6 is this bar ie about 100psi?

The 8 bar one is for a different car, not Lancia. The picture in my mind is that the 6 bar unit has not been available for a long time so the parts dealers sold the 8 bar one instead. The 8 bar one gives a reading but because of the non linearity the max pressure indication is at about mid scale.
If you can do the test, it is a good idea to vary the pressure from 0 to 6 bar and measure the resistance. It should be about 300 ohms at 0 bar and 0 ohms at 6 bar. Inside the unit is a wire wound variable resistor. The wiper may not make contact everywhere. The unit can be opened for cleaning the contacts. Also bend the brass contact pressing against the external contact a little.
If I remember correctly 14 psi equals 1 bar.
The Jeager instruments also have 6 bar senders but their electrical characteristics are slightly different. I have not (yet) opened one.

What should a good fulvia engine (ie new shells, in spec crank, and oil pump) give for oil pressure when hot at 4000 rpm?
What is the blow off pressure of the relief valve? It seems higher in the mounts for oil cooler take off than the standard oil filter take off - they look different designs.

The pressure relief valve opens at 6 to 6.3 bar (84 to 88 bar). If you have a 6 bar sender this correspond to a full scale reading on the gauge irrespective of the figures on the scale.
I don't remember any figures from any Lancia documentation. I believe oil pressure is mentioned somewhere in the user manual. I would expect the oil pressure to get to that 6 bar at or before 3000 rpm on a newly rebuilt engine. When I rebuild an engine oil pressure reaches the 6 bar at 2000 to 2200 rpm when warm. Does not make much difference whether I put in 5W40 or 10W60 oil. I do however do the extra work of setting all bearing clearances to exactly 0,045, restoring the line bore and rebuilding the oil pump with very low clearances.

my low milage (30kkm) 1.3S reaches 100% when fully warm at 2000. This was after a precautionary replacement of crankshaft shells on recommissioning after long storage. My 1600 gets to 100% when not fully warm but is at 80% at c 4500rpm.

Hi everybody.

Is it impossible to find a new oil pressure sender that has 6 bar maximum reading and 10x1 thread?
The vdo on ebay works different, because I think, that at low engine pressure, they hay have low dc resistance.
I have to open my old veglia 6 bar?
sorry for my english..
thank you so much friends.

Yes. Open it. Put in ultrasonic cleaning bath. Dry with warm air. Test with cover still off. Bend the contact in the cover a bit.

Re: Fulvia Oil Pressure Sender - which one
Thank you Huib.
I've read from your Q&A that you open it with a chisel;
I was thinking of using a grinding wheel to cut the body in the middle...
With a chisel like you said, I can lift the edges at the bottom of the body?
Thank you very much!
P.S.
From spare parts book of S1 Fulvia, the PN of the oil pressure sender is 82205408 that is produced still nowadays, but it has a 0-8 bar scale :S
My old on is the classic veglia borletti 0-6 bar
Bye!
