Handbrake adjustment

I have fitted new handbrake cables and the handbrake travel which was initially short has now increased. I think cables need tightening. This is important as we use it for rallies.
The instructions I have from UK LMC say insert 0.1mm shim under each pad ( presumably with handbrake off?) and tighten adjusting bolt on caliper. If this still leaves handbrake needing adjustment to shorten travel then:

Tighten each adjusting bolt until pads tightly contact disc (not clear if with handbrake on or off?)

Fully release handbrake ( does this mean just check or does it mean you start with it fully on?)

Slacken adjusting bolt at end of cable until cable less loose. Then lock. ( is this right way round as would have thought tighten not loosen cable?)

Restore working clearance with 0.1mm shims as above

THe standard way to fix the handbrake is explained in the operating manual
I have such a doc written in french....
nothing difficult; the corret tightening is when you reach the second notch on the lever

adjustment process needs to have lever handbrake at the floor (fully non tightened)
and the metal cable between lever and calipers should be tightened as short as possible, so action on the lever puts the cable under tension,
and paddles come in contact with disc
release the left and right bolts on calipers, so that you can insert a 0.1mm blade between disc and paddles, and tighten the bolts, not too much to be able to extract the blade...that's all
