Is this Fulvia S2, S3 or S2,5?

Unread post by JPEETERS »

Dear Fulvia enthusiasts,

I'm looking at a beautifull green Fulvia with (original?) white striping, which is advertised as a S2.
The model year is 1974, but I'm not sure which month.

I have noticed it has the white dials, and green carpets. Does this mean it is an S3, from the Fiat era?
I asked the seller, and he sais he has always thought it was an S2.

The asking price is 8000 euros.
It's a 1300 km drive to go and see the car, so I'd like to know as much as possible before I make an appointment with the seller.

Best regards,
Jeroen (from Belgium)

Looking at the white dials, the head rests and the year I would say it is S3.

Technically there is no S3. It is more a marketing thing than a technical indication. The S3 and S2 have the same 818.630 number, the same parts manual, the same workshop manual. The only difference are the white dials, head rests and carpets instead of rubber mats. There is some debate about the grille. Might be silver for all S2 and black for all S3.

On early S2's you find some S1 parts (wishbones, inner CVJ's, rear spring mounts) but these have already gone on the later S2's and I am not sure they changed all those parts at the same time.

The take over by Fiat was I believe in 1969. The S2 went into production in 1970. I doubt if Fiat had much significant influence on the S2. The whole car industry was changing rapidly in those days. The manager was just invented and that was and is a world wide disease.

If you want to know my personal feeling about that car, you have to send a PM which you can do in Dutch.

The interior is S3, and if 1974 is correct, that is O.K.
There are no real Quality differences between S2 and S3, both from what you call Fiat era.
Nothing wrong with a series 2 or 3 Fulvia. Both true Lancia's and mechanically easier to handle than the S1 in my opinion.(Brakes)

I went to see a 1971 Lancia Fulvia 1,3s close to home yesterday, and couldn't resist.

We bought it immediatly! As soon as I bring it home, I will make some pictures and show the car here on the forum.

This also means I will not be going to see the other Fulvia, which is in France.
You can find that Fulvia via the following link: http://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/473977261.htm?ca=21_s

I think the owner really wants to sell quickly, so you might get a good deal!

I know nothing about nothing about this car nor the value of Fulvia in France nor anywhere else

Still, I venture:
my my my, even an Olive-Green Car can be attractive, if it is a Fulvia Cpe !!!

asking price may be fair if the car is Xcellent
of course if is not Xcellent it seems to not be a fair price......
as everyone would agree on........
or ?

and, for almost all of us living far away from wherever the car is in France, those of us who would be wise to take a Fulvia Xpert along to somewhere in France & paying that Xpert (something somehow), that Xpert perhaps carrying an engine compression-meter & various other instruments & tools...it is a long way to go ... but it could be a nice Holiday !

I will not go to France

geepers, only 870km via Freiburg, Basel, St Gotthard Tunnel, Como, Milano, Genoa, Monoco...
with traffic at least a 2 day trip....
late at night a dangerous route to do in 1 shot....
not to say Xpensive with all them toll-roads....

maybe I need to visit my French partner - via Karlsruhe, Djon (get mustard !), Besacon, Lyon (get cheese) - just scooting 830km down to Avignon (get purple Pastis) soon ; ha ha ha - it is only another 300km from Avig to La Turbie...pulling a trailer ?

I'd think that the long way (past Avignon) may take less hours than the short way past Genoa ??

Sorry, not me in no Caso,,, anyway having bought 2 Lancia in last 8 weeks, I am going no where ... no time ... soon...to look any any Tin & Steel.

besides, I've just returned from a non-car-buying trip, not entirely in my own car - thank hvns; driving past everywhere to drive past Basel, Chiaso, Milano, Bergamo & Brescia - in IT on toll-free Superstrada & not on pay-Toll Autostrada - to arrive in lovely Desenzo on Lago de Garda - then over to SL & HR. than back to Garda; 2 days after leaving wet, cold, rainy, empty Desenzo for HR )Croatia) - heading back to Heidelberg, DE in more rain.

That is enough miles & km for a while, not to mention the 12 hrs lost heading south when a certain engine-noise developed was heard from the 1st Lancia I drove....which added nothing to the fun-travel that this trip was supposed to be...but that izs nuther story..........I may not mention it again !
