Thesis strange electronic troubles

Unread post by Pierre VALLADE »

Hi all,

I bought a used Thesis (V6 3.0 / 2003) near 100.000 km and I am facing several troubles probably related to Electronic.

They can be set in four categories. I don't know if the are related to the same problem or not.

1) Some times, instead of having display of mileages (partial and total) on the dashboard, I got "EOL Error" blinking (EOL instead of the partial display and Error instead of the total display). To reset, I need to stop/start the engine, sometimes it's reset, some times not. I don't know what is the meaning of "EOL Error".

2) From times to times, the radio stop automatically. Then the clock and external temperature display desappear on the dashboard. The buttons on the steering wheel don't work. When I stop the engine, the radio don't stop, I need to stop it manually. This trouble reset automatically after a period from few minutes to more than one hour.

3) The Air conditioning stops automatically it self . IE The display turns off completely and cooling stops too. To reset, I need to start the radio ???? .... No, I am not drunk.

4) From time to time, I got alarm messages on the dashboad such as "EPB" "COMFORTRONIC" "ESP" .... asking me (in french language) to go to the "atelier".

If some one in the LANCIA world has an idea,

Except that, I am very happy with this car.

Many thanks in advance.

hello pierre

please work with this checklist

Moin Rainer,

und der dreckigste vorneweg.

War nen hübsch bunter Haufen.

@mauki40

Mikele,

Many thanks for you reply, unfortunately I can't read the message and computer translation give me bad results. However, according to the few words I can read, I need to check the contacts.

If you have the same text in english, it should be nice.

Best regards,

Pierre

The text in english:
1.: The auxiliary battery for the electric parking brake is empty – quite frequent
2.: ABS computer has an insufficient contact in the connector
3.: Connectors underneath both front seats
4.: Insufficient contacts in the fuse box in the engine bay
5. broken fuse in the fuse box on the right side of the trunk

Best regards

For your problem there different approaches.

1: The auxiliary battery for the hand brake is empty - fairly common
2: ABS control unit loose connector contact
3: connectors under the driver's and front passenger seat
4: A bad connection in the fuse box in the engine compartment front
5 defective fuse in the fuse box in the trunk right (here you can find the Hand brake battery too)

So this is my checklist with me when the Christmas tree lights up again.
I'm assuming, then also the speedometer and tachometer go to zero too?

I also had my Christmas tree lightning up a few months ago, I've decided to have the errors analysed in my favorite garage.
Well, as is always the case, even before I was in the garage, everything worked again without any problems, until now.

Yes, it is normal with a Thesis.

Best regards, Ivo

Hello Pierre,

I read your message about EOL error for many years ago, now I have exactly the same problem (all the failures you described, exactly the same) with my 3.2 Thesis. Did you ever found out what caused this problem?

Greetings
Marcel

Marcel,

The problem on my car was due to the NIT (radio, GPS, telephone).

To solve this problem, I removed the NIT and sent it in Italy at Torino for repair. Cost was about 250/300 € excluding port and packaging for return. Still in my car now for several years.
Link to this office : http://www.tswnavigatoreauto.com/

I wrote (in french) the procedure to remove the NIT about 1/2 hour and quite easy : http://www.lanciathesis-clubdefrance.fr ... t-connect/

Let me know in cas of problem.
