Heat in the cabin when A/C off

Unread post by Aleksandar Vidojevic »

Hello everybody,

I have a strange problem. From the time to time a lot of heat comes into the cabin from the lower console area (driver and passanger side) when legs are possitioned. It looks that engine heat comes somehow to the cabin. Strange enough the problem occurs periodicaly, not all the time. A/C is off all the time. It happens in cold and warm weather.
Any experince, ideas?

Hi,
Try to put on the airconditioning full blown on cold and see if it gives cold or hot air. If it is hot or lukewarm, the problem comes from the air conditioning. You would want to refill it. If there is no more cooling liquid left in the system, it indicates that you have a leak. In that case have it half filled with a tracable liquid, drive it for !$ days with the airco working (as much as possible) and have the system checked with a UV lamp, to find the leak. Then have it repaired and do a full refill....

Second option is the valve next to the airco compressor. If it is malfunctioning, the compressor will not work, henche hot air. These are easy to replace and will cost you around 20 euros on ebay.co.uk

Good luck.

Do you hear a rattling noise when this happens? The valve that controls mixing of warm and fresh air is known to fail sometimes. It can be reached by taking apart the carpet against the centre console.
