Gearbox reverse selection problems

Hi, have recently acquired a montecarlo so looking for some advice...could anyone suggest what the source of the problem might be if reverse gear selection is difficult? It seems to engage sometimes but will often disengage under power. Is this a common problem with the gearbox.
