Dear Giles,

The handbrake on these cars is usually very good, probably needs adjustment by tightening the adjustment nut underneath, just ahead of the rear suspension.

The seat belts are also usually good, although I've known the cable of the stalk to break on a couple. I'm not all that up on exactly why they would fail your car, as I'm in South Africa and have nevere been through an MOT, although our traffic cops are pretty mean...

Best place to start with your restoration is to get a Haynes Beta manual to check out the mechanical parts. Joining the LMC may also help.

Kindest regards,
Guy

Not sure about handbrake cable but they can seize at rear end should be able to get a new one from Betacar or even local brake parts supplier.
I have some original Lancia seat belts for Betas what do you need?
