Beta performance suspensions

Other than Koni's, did any other company manufacture performance suspension bits for the the Beta Coupe? I have been trying to research the issue and am finding no references to any other companies than Koni. thanks in advance for any information you have. Dan

it seems very difficult to find any information on betas I believe that several companies produced lower springs indeed I have a set (second hand make unknown) but I cannot decide whether to put them on my vx or not because it may spoil the ride and the beta handles just fine as it is. I don't know of any firm producing performance dampers and ordinary spec ones are now thin on the ground. I would be interested to see what you find out!

Leda, in the U.K. will make a performance setup for the Betas, as $400 U.S. per corner. Not cheap! I too have found the spring sets, but none of them fit correctly. I bet some vendors are selling other kits that are close. I'm having a set of springs custom made for my Beta, but now I need dampers to match the springs. There is a company here in the States that will revalve the earlier stuts as they are rebuildable. I'm considering taking a strut to a local suspension shop and comparing it with the Volkswagen Rabbit/Golf units. There has to be another car that is close. I'll share any info I find. Dan

Hi All,
My suggestion would be to try the Sachs Boge company. Although no longer a catalogue listed model they will reproduce shocks - I sent them an email about replacement items for my VX coupe and very obligingly they provided me with their part numbers both for the suspension and for clutch parts.
Koni aren't interested and most other specialists (Bilstein etc) either don't have the parts listed or are prohibitively expensive. If anyone wants the part numbers drop me an email and I'll forward the info to you.

Alan,
Don't be affraid to try the springs, it not only helps the handling, but makes the car look more aggressive too. If it spoils the ride, change them back, it only takes a few hours and a few beers with a friend to do the swap anyway!. I have the IAP Sport lowering springs and Koni's all around, the ride, including backroads, city and freeway is just fine. It was a little bouncy in the city with the stock struts but not uncomfotably so. The Koni's stopped that problem The car looks better and it turns corners much flatter and more stable now. It even launches from dead stop much much better as it doesnt' squat in back nor rise in front like the stock suspension. You can see it at: http://www.motorcities.com/contents/02A6A371738497.html But remember, in the US, our cars also came with a much higher suspension height thanks to the government rules at the time

I have Sachs dampers on my Volumex they are non adjustable but are a complete strut not an insert I had some springs made to spec the ride height is down about 1 - 11/2" handling is superb no problem even with the awful roads round here. You may find some second hand Konis they can be rebuilt by Koni good for another 100,000+ miles!

Hi,
I had a similar experiance, Koni rebuilt my struts and were to put springs on them.
When I got the struts, no springs and they said I was on my own.
Does anybody know the spring rate for 1979 Lancia zagato or where I could get 2 1/2I.D. coil-over springs?

Hi
I just bought second hand set of ORANGE adjustable KONI's for 77 coupe. I have a questions, how do you test them to see if they are OK, does the rod meant to spring back at all or not. If not how do you compress rod to adjust it?? I'm lost on this.

Regards
Peter
