Crank Seal

Unread post by Carl »

Any one know if it is possible to change the crank seal on a beta 2000 with the engine still in the car. ( I think it's the crank seal, there's oil pissin' out near the gearbox)

It is possible but not easy, you have to follow the procedure for changing the clutch which involves removing drive shafts, & hanging the gearbox or sitting it on a jack so that you can move it into the underwing area. Remove the clutch lock the flywheel & undo the 6 bolts holding it on they are usually locktited as well as being very tight holding the engine steady is a problem! Remove the flywheel to expose the seal. It is all very cramped & awkward being trained in gynacology would help!! Dropping the whole subframe with everthing on it is not that difficult & makes access easier if you have the lifting gear - an engine crane will do the job
