Modyfing Beta Zagato

Unread post by Ignacio »

My car is a 79 Zagato (American version of the spyder). I am looking for convertion kit for 2ble carburators, cams and exhaust systems.
Anyone has or knows where to find good ones? Also looking for the european version of the bompers.

First suggestion if you live in the USA (and I don't want to teach you to suck eggs!) would be to find out what modifcations are permissible - some US states don't like tuning!
Second would be to get hold of the Guy Croft book on tuning Fiat and Lancia twin cams, everything you ever needed to know is in there. Think about joining the Yahoo! Lancia beta forum. I don't think you'll find anyone selling a 'kit' as such, I expect you'll have to shop around to find the bits you need.
Plenty of manifolds (inlet and exhaust) available here in the UK but similar parts can probably be sourced via International Auto, Bayliss and other US based specialists. After running normally aspirated Lancias for some years (I now run a supercharged Beta coupe) my cam recommendations would be standard exhaust and Fiat Strada Abarth inlet, combined with Weber 45 DCOE carbs.I would advise you have think about a 'big valve head' to improve breathing, you'll also have to do some re-engineering under the bonnet to get it all to fit!
Bumpers could be expensive, front bumpers OK and cheap enough but European spec rear bumper unique to the Spyder - won't be cheap.

Thanks Hamish. Actually I am in Colombia and my car is only one of five in the country!. I just bought the Guy Croft manual and expecting it to be arriving next thursday. I travel frecuently to Eruope (Spain) and lets say its same as easy to bring stuff from the US. I just want to make sure to bring the proper "ingredients".
I have a doubt: will be possible to fit a 2ble carburator inlet manifold with that distributor (Magneti Marelli) just so close in the way??

I will start to look for a inlet cam from the Strada. What do you think of the Avanti (UK) Cylinder Heads?. Do you have the specs for the standard outlet cam ? mine is amercian version and I think is different.

Do you prefer aspirated or supercharged betas? Regards from a Lancisti from the other side of the world.

Look for a Guy Croft manifold, these have the necessary offset to accommodate the MM dizzy - but it is a tight fit! Suggest you try the sponsors of this forum for the manifold. Avanti are good and very helpful, but very very expensive. I'd try (if buying in the UK) Evocars or a similar firm first. Not sure about exhaust cam info for US spec cars, will look into it. make sure the inlet cam is from the Strada Abarth /130 TC - any other will be waste of time.
