Unread post by Aris64 »

Engine 818.303 1.3S 1975. These are the main and conrods bearings identification. Could help someone if these are standard or 1st stage repair? I am not sure about my measurements so extra advice is needed!

Best measure the crankshaft which you have to do anyway.

Remember to get the plugs out and clean the chambers inside the crankshaft. The crankshaft functions as a centrifugal filter and always has debris inside.

Following your reply in the pistons thread find here a follow up answer.

Oversize (or in the case of bearings perhaps undersize is a better description) is measured in thousands of inches and go in steps of 0.010 inch.

Markings would be 0.010 then 0.020 etc. Or just 10 then 20. Don't rely on markings even.more so if there is any doubt. Measure measure measure.

As Huib mentioned. Have a look inside the chambers of the crankshaft.
See what you find.

In this case the engine has had no problem with the oil pressure. guess why.

I measured crankshaft, its definitely undersized by 0.10", so this is clear. I have impressed about debris in crankshaft.... I suppose that is quite strateforward unbolting the hex allen plugs, correct?

Thank you also, all, for your contribution so far!

Hi Aris64

There is a typo in your last message. The under size is most likely 0.010"
