Re: How to torque cylinder block bolts?

tools for torquing.jpg Here the tools I made. The error is small. If you want to correct for it the formula is in the Flavia book. When making this post I get a new idea. Welding a 13 mm socket and a 17 mm socket together may also do the job. If it does you can grind some off the opposite side of t...

There is a typo in your last message. The under size is most likely 0.010"
You are correct 100%!

How to torque cylinder block bolts?

During disassembly of cylinder block from crankcase I noticed that only open spanner can be used in most of the bolts due to engine's design not allowing the use of torque spanner. Even my set of crow-feet keys cannot be used. Apart from fabricating some tool (the end of open spanner key adapted som...

Re: BEARINGS Identification

I measured crankshaft, its definitely undersized by 0.10", so this is clear. I have impressed about debris in crankshaft.... I suppose that is quite strateforward unbolting the hex allen plugs, correct?

Thank you also, all, for your contribution so far!

Re: Pistons identification

My guess is that the 6/10 means the piston is for a cylinder of 77.6 If the engine has been overhauled once, it is hardly possible that it still has the standard size of 77.0 You should in any case measure the pistons and cylinders further down. Remember to measure ovality too. You will probably ha...

Pistons identification

Today I opened my 818.303 engine for check and overhauling (if necessary). Head and block appeared in excellent condition but apparently the engine has been repaired in some extent. Head bolts 1 & 2 were in irrelevant positions, cylinder walls have been honed, no "teeth" on pistons's e...

Re: Cam timing

Always welcome. Here the link for printing the disc. https://www.blocklayer.com/degree-wheel.aspx I always print it on ultra high gloss A3 photo printer. That's perfect! I have seen that you are dealing with 123 ignition distributors as well. I am very happy with them in my FIAT & ALFA ROMEO, I...

Re: Cam timing

Putting crankshaft at TDC and the camshafts on the mark is ok. I would at least check with the 2,2 mm method on cylinders 1 and 4. We also print a 360 degree disc to fit the flywheel (or the pulley if the engine is still in the car) and check all 4 cylinders opening and closing. Thank you so much! ...

Re: Cam timing

Hi to all Lancisti from Greece. I got recently a coupe 1.3 S of 1975 3rd series in completely original status and 99000km on the clock. Just started restoration and I would like to ask about timing process... My camshafts don't have vernier so adjustment is only possible with timing marks, so far so...
