Re: Lancia Flaminia Saxomat

PG and others, I have been involved with Lancia since 1967 and worked with Tom Sheehan for 9 years in the parts business. We never heard of these 813.36's back then. We knew that there were Saxomat's, but never had a customer that was running one. Lately I have been getting calls from all over the U...

Re: Pistons 818302 / 303 / 342

I have built a Series 1 HF -818.340 & a Series 1, 1.3S - 818.303 among others. The HF engine had polished ports from the factory and also had a larger clearance between the piston & cylinder bore ( less drag). It also had polished rocker arms, although I don't think that increases horse power.

Paolo,

And yes, the 342 pistons do have a higher dome than the 303's.

Re: Engine block colour?

I honestly believe that the cast iron cylinder block was not painted at all. I have had many apart and have never seen any paint other than some orange splotches that were used to mark something or indicate something. That good quality cast iron just forms a rust patina that eventually gets covered ...

Re: Flavia valve timing

Michael, There is an article written by Martin Cliffe called TECHNICAL FEATURE - SETTING THE CAMSHAFT TIMING OF AURELIA AND FLAMINIA ENGINES that out lines the MOP timing procedure very well. It will apply to Flavia engines as well. I accessed this article from the AURELIA WORKSHOP MANUAL, published...

Re: Flavia valve timing

Michael, Assuming you are working on a 815.330 w/ a 815.300 engine, I believe you are very close. Referring to Lancia Technical Data Sheet 501I, set the clearance to 1 mm + .03 mm for timing setting. This has the intake opening 1.4 (not 1.3) degrees BTDC. After you take the 1 mm clearance down to .0...

Re: Lead substitute

Greg, Lancia used very high quality & hard valve seats. I wouldn't expect a problem. Check you valve adjustments several times a year for a while. If the valves lash tightens up every time you check it, you most likely have a problem. Please consider the Pittsburgh Gran Prix & the ALC Fall R...
